Petition against Indian Government Websites

Save_india_revolutioners

I am not sure what to do and how to proceed about it. I really don’t have any idea where to complain about it. I am not too sure if someone would listen to me even if I tell them about it. I never used to visit our government websites. But now a days I have been trying to figure out some information so I need to go online and check for our government websites. You can’t even imagine. I mean I am not sure whether to laugh or cry on the kind of websites that has been created by government.

I am thinking of getting into a business of creating websites and offer the services for free. May be web developers in India can come together and try to help our country’s pride. We as citizen of India need to think about it. I already spoke about it in my previous post that 60% of our government website’s traffic is not from India. Just check the difference between an Indian website and American website. People from around the world who wants to visit India try to get information about it. And what they get, a pathetic html page, which is not even up to date. NIC boasts their UI design on their webhosting website. I just laughed for a moment when I read that.

Now why I am writing about it. Well, I am not a developer still I am able to manage a Blog of mine. I understand it does not take much to handle a Wordpress admin panel. But I am talking about professionals hired by Government of India to do just that. OK, so I call up on all the developers from India willing to work for government for free as I feel they can not afford a good UI designer and developers at the moment.

Please reply if you are with me. If you agree to the fact that yes our government websites indeed require a facelift. If you are still thinking then just visit any of the below mentioned urls.

And let me tell you how hard it was to compile the list of websites, as they all kept going off when I was writing this post. Yes believe me I am not exaggerating it. And most of the links were not even working. May be heavy traffic :P

Just a last question for you guys. Do you know one single website of Indian Government or State Government or any Government Department website, which actually looks like a work of some developer. I mean which does not feel like an office document converted into an html file and linked with a home page and put on a server to host the website. Just one single website I am asking.

And with this article I am introducing another category on my Blog which will only focus on the news and thoughts of mine in terms of our own Government. Their work, good or bad. Their work style, and I mean everything. So watch out for more..

Important thing : Please don’t share this post on Social Networks as I don’t want to make mockery out of it because then the whole world will be reading about it. Please share it with your friends over the email as much as you can.

You are dead on point. Even I see a lot of opportunity for the government to improve up on their websites.

Thanks anyways, I do support you on this.

Yes, I can offer my services for free. If government give me a chance. Not even me there will be thousand of students and developers in India who would do this Job.

All we need is support from our government. Most of the time we are looked down. People want to know about our country.. and the only way this can happen without coming to our country is web.. and if we don’t have a robust, informative and intuitive information system in place then people can’t get information about whatever they are looking for.

And forget other countries yar, even if I want to search for something on our Indian Government Websites. I can’t because its pain.. most of the time things are  presented in such a way which is useless..
