I recently bought an iPhone 2G. It was already unlocked and jailbroken so I did not have to do anything. But me being nerd was trying to get latest iOS 4 to work on 2G. Well to my surprise iOS 4 worked with 2G but performance was not that great so I decided to install the original firmware and then jailbreak if required. And beleive me everything worked fine the firmware version 3.1.3 and I am using the phone without any unlock or jailbreak. I think apple has decided to free these old souls i.e. iPhone 2Gs
Wow ! This post was written with the same iPhone using WordPress app
If you have not checked my previous post about Airtel introducing Unlocked iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G in India. Here is an update for you guys. Airtel and Vodafone are out of the race of providing Unlocked iPhone in India. Please check the link again and the check against Airtel is no longer there.

Thanks to our reader Siggy who rightly pointed it out.
This is sad again but lets see what happens. I am not sure what is Airtel and Vodafone cooking. Our carriers are getting pathetic than AT&T in US.
Just saw an article on Apple website which confirms Airtel being the only carrier to sell Unlocked iPhone 3GS in India. That means that you can buy iPhone from Airtel and then use it with any other carrier.

Didn’t I mention that earlier. Yippie !! That indeed is a really good news. Where are you Vodafone ?

Remember George Hotz ! The 20 year old hacker who originally cracked the iPhone firmware. , Here he goes again, he has released a new jailbreaking application for the iPhone 3GS. The new application to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS is codenamed as “purplera1n.” The application currently supports Windows-only excluding Windows 7.(windows 7 is not supported). For purplera1n you would require the latest iTunes installed, and an iPhone 3GS with the 3.0 firmware.
Hotz speaks in a blog post that purplera1n will suppport Mac soon. The iPhone Dev Team did release a unlock for 3.0 which did not work on the iPhone 3GS, but Hotz’s version does (although it doesn’t free you from your current carrier).
Hotz goes over the process of the jailbreaking on his blog:
Connect your iPhone normally. Click “make it ra1n”. Wait. On bootup, run Freeze, the purplera1n installer app.
This is how the GUI of purplera1n looks like.

Just thinking about it as we are already paying the whole ammount in lumsum. I mean an unlocked iPhone costs around that much only what all Indians are paying to Vodafone and Airtel. So can this time around Airtel and Vodafone introduce the unlocked version of iPhone in India. As the same has already been done in other countries like Japan and Hongkong.
